Feature Image: Shophouses in Changkat Bukit Bintang – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 2016

I am based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since 2008, I have been photographing in the South East Asian region with the intention of rediscovering my home. Having left Malaysia at the age of 12 for an education in Melbourne, Australia, I lived most of my adult life  in the western hemisphere.

My work is a means of relearning my home, and the region surrounding it. It is the best form of therapy I have so far encountered, putting up this website, far less so. South East Asia represented an odd landscape to me, vaguely familiar, but now somewhat clearer. The immediate culture-shock of moving home, a reverse-migration, was such that exploring the region around Malaysia, my home, became a way of seeing. And it remains a way of clearing the head and shifting perspectives. It’s been like getting to know distant cousins and uncles and aunts so I could figure out the personal tribe back home. It seems to be working.

With the good fortune of occasional visits to Europe and back to that other ‘home’ Australia, my comprehension has been further improved, with the desire for contrast and escape fulfilled.

Recent interests include:

A developing personal project, tentatively titled Vitamin|M, which explores and comments on Malaysia and the region she inhabits in terms of current events, and recent history. M works for Malaysia, Mekong, money, migrants and more, in the age of the hash-tag.

Instagram has been an attempt at installing a narrative to this project, with frequent digressions.
